Spiced Simple Syrup cocktail

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Water
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 2 sticks Cinnamon
  • 4 whole Cloves
  • 4 whole Allspice berries
  • 1 strip Orange peel — Avoid too much white pith
  • 1 pinch Fine salt — Optional, helps round the syrup

Method

  1. Add the water, cinnamon sticks, cloves, allspice berries, and orange peel to a small saucepan.
  2. Bring just to a simmer, then reduce the heat and steep gently for 5 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and let the spices steep for another 10 to 15 minutes.
  4. Strain out the spices and orange peel.
  5. While the liquid is still warm, stir in the sugar until fully dissolved.
  6. Add a tiny pinch of salt, if using.
  7. Cool completely, then bottle and refrigerate.
